The Pearl Drop Earrings

The Idea

When my best friend’s birthday was arriving, I happened to see these Giambattista Valli bridal earrings. My best friend, Molly, can never find earrings big enough. She wants enormous, dangling things that hit her shoulders and are the size of dinner plates. I decided now was the time for me to try my hand at this.

The interesting thing about the original earrings is the structure used to hold them up. I crafted a headband from two wires to hold it up from the studs, to add additional support and keep the earlobes safe.

The shape of the earring is a nod to the original, but crafted from blister pearls, potato pearls, moss agate beads, and baroque pearl dangle. The whole thing is held together with a complex, wire-wrapped structure.

Molly is going to wear these to her wedding, where I will be a bridesmaid. I can’t wait to have the pictures!
